I am a fan of Michael Barone. I don’t really need to agree with a guy or his conclusions to respect the way he always tries to bring relevant well-thought-out facts to his articles. Today’s article started with health care as a base and talked about the current errors between the Republicans saying that a bill like this has never been passed and the Democrats saying once this is bill is in place, it will never be removed. It’s definitely worth a read. He talked about how consequences can be what no one intends. I saw some other things in the article. Some more basic questions. There used to be a time when equal protection under the law was an ideal. So was equal treatment under the law. Now we seem to be moving to the ideal of pure power politics. It would make Thucydides proud. It makes me a little sick. Are our founding principles so cheap that they can be casually thrust away?

"Climategate" certainly has stirred up climate change discussions. On the one hand, the skeptics seem to see this as a "smoking gun" that invalidates human-based global warming. The supporters consider this "much ado about nothing." What is one to make of this?
Some of the issues raised in the thousands of emails are surely damning. There were attempts to stifle dissent and manipulate data toward an end. On the other hand, some issues were taken out of context.
Still, there have been years of climate science at places other than Anglin. This cannot and should not be dismissed .
